This project is an investigation project of Shenhua Baotou Coal to Olefin Plant Conversion and Expansion Project invested by China Shenhua (Baotou) Charcoal Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. The project is located in Jiuyuan District, Baotou City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous. The investigation scope includes slag retaining dam, roads around the dam, a management station and six seepage water collection ponds.
The project was carried out from December 2020 to May 2021, and the official report was submitted on September 30, 2021. During the investigation, a combination of drilling, hand-excavation, standard penetration test, wave velocity test and geotechnical tests (consolidation test, shear test, permeability test, light compaction, soil and water corrosion, etc.) was used for the Quaternary wind-deposited powder mixed sand layer and Quaternary Holocene Series alluvial powder and sand layer. The investigation provided reliable and accurate geological information and bearing capacity of the strata, evaluated the site adverse geological effects and special soils (collapsible loess and liquefied soils), and evaluated the stability, suitability and uniformity of the site. Combined with the project characteristics, a reasonable foundation treatment plan and related foundation pile design parameters were proposed, and a preliminary evaluation of the overall and local stability of the ash dam foundation was made, the impact of surface water and groundwater on the stability of the dam foundation was analyzed, the settlement of the slag site was predicted, and scientific and reasonable design parameters and related suggestions were provided for the design and construction of the off-site ash yard.
The construction period met the plan target and contract requirements, the project quality met the requirements of the design and relevant specifications and standards, and the occupational health and safety and environmental management measures were implemented during the construction process to achieve the goal of zero safety accidents.
